United Methodist Women (UMW) is an active and integral part of life at Laguna Beach United Methodist Church.  All women are welcome to participate in UMW’s activities.  The purpose of UMW is to develop a creative, supportive fellowship and focus on mission outreach, especially as it relates to women and children.  A boutique is held each fall to raise money for a variety of mission projects selected by the group.  In recent year, they have included Illumination Foundation, Africa University, David and Margaret Home for Girls and Laguna Beach Friendship Shelter.

Regular general meetings are typically held at the church on the second Saturday of even months (February, April, June, August, October and December).

UMW’s Book Discussion Group typically meets at members’ homes on the second Saturday of odd months (January, March, May, July, September, and November). Books are selected by the group, some from suggestions put forth by the national UMW; others are personal choices.

While most meetings follow the standard, sometimes dates are changed when they conflict with other church activities.

During the year, speakers address the group at two or three of the general meetings.  Usually the speakers represent non-profit organizations that provide assistance to women and/or children.  Time is always set aside at each meeting for refreshments and conversation. At least every other year, UMW sponsors a road trip, sometimes by bus.  This year, a day-long retreat was held.

A Spring Tea is held on the Saturday before Mother’s Day. It includes a speaker and an accessories boutique.  Proceeds from the tea and boutique are donated to the speaker’s organization.
