Holy Week 

Holy Week begins with Palm Sunday, when we remember Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem and the hope that filled the streets that day. As part of our sermon series, The Good News Is…, this service reflects on how the Good News inspires us not only to believe, but to act. Through scripture, music, and prayer, we’ll explore how Jesus’ courage and compassion continue to shape the way we live and care for one another. Palm Sunday marks the beginning of the journey toward the cross and the empty tomb, opening the door to the sacred days that follow.

Following Palm Sunday worship, all ages are invited to continue the journey with this interactive Palm Sunday experience. Move at your own pace through simple meditation stations inspired by John Wesley’s call to “do all the good you can,” with practices that invite reflection, prayer, and intention. Afterward, gather on the patio to break bread and explore meaningful ways to serve, give, learn, and advocate for justice in our community. Come as you are and consider one faithful step you might take as the Palm Sunday story moves from the streets of Jerusalem into everyday acts of love.

On Maundy Thursday, we will gather in a variety of spaces throughout our community in homes, one at LBUMC, and family-centered gatherings at a local park and beach. These gatherings will feature moments of scripture, prayer, reflection, and a simple hand or foot washing as we experience the story of Jesus’ last meal in a personal and meaningful way. Together we will enjoy refreshments, reflect on Christ’s act of humble love, and consider what it means to care for one another. On Good Friday, we gather for a contemplative service through scripture, meditation, and music. We remember the final hours of Jesus’ life and the way of peace he chose even in the face of betrayal and brutality.  This service will be shared in partnership with our neighbors at Corona del Mar Congregational Church, with Pastor Ray Jordan, Dr. Emma Whitten, and musicians from both communities helping lead the evening. Together we reflect on the enduring power of Christ’s self-giving love as Holy Week moves toward the promise of Easter.

Start Easter morning with one of Laguna Beach’s most beautiful traditions. As the sun rises over the ocean, we gather at Main Beach for a joyful outdoor service celebrating the Good News of resurrection and new life. Bring a beach chair and a flower to place on the cross as we watch the sky brighten and welcome Easter together by the sea. With music, scripture, and the sound of the waves nearby, this simple service offers a peaceful and hopeful way to begin Easter morning before the day unfolds.

Celebrate Easter with us as we proclaim “The Good News Is… Alive in the World!" With joyful music, prayer, and the Easter story, we gather to celebrate the hope and new life revealed in the resurrection of Christ. The angel’s message, “Do not be afraid,” echoes through the ages as the risen Christ sends the first witnesses to share the Good News with the world. Easter reminds us that God’s love continues to move outward, bringing hope wherever it is shared. An Easter egg hunt for children will follow the service as we continue the celebration together.
