Welcome to Laguna Beach United Methodist Church! We are an active, inclusive congregation, bringing God’s love to life by welcoming all of God’s children, and by carrying that love into our community and into the world. We are glad you found us, and we hope to meet you soon. Below are some key insights into who we are and what we do, that we hope will answer any immediate questions you may have.
Who is the lead pastor?
Rev. Mandy Sloan McDow has been our lead pastor since 2014. To learn more about the LBUMC staff, Click Here.
How is Laguna Beach United Methodist Church different from other churches?
We emphasize God’s inclusive love and grace, with hearts and minds and doors open to all regardless of race, age, ethnicity, orientation, or station in life. We also believe strongly in putting our faith into action, ministering to those who need help in our community, and working for justice here and around the world. For more about what we believe, Click Here.
Our location is also special, as we sit on a hill above Pacific Coast Highway, overlooking the wonder of God’s creation manifested in the Pacific Ocean. Come for the view, stay for the people and the love and to serve! Maps & Directions.
What can I expect on Sunday?
Our worship service begins at 10:00 am, and is a blended service with both traditional and modern elements. If you’d like to listen to past sermons, Click Here.
Christian Education for children, youth, and adults begins at 9:00 am. For more information about Adult Education, Click Here. Fore more information about children and youth ministry, see the section below titled “What will my children do on Sunday”
Every Sunday after the worship service we have an informal time for coffee and fellowship, and there is a Welcome Table set up outside where you can find out more about us. On some Sundays we have a more formal fellowship event after worship to celebrate key seasons of the church or the community, and we also sometimes offer special Christian Education classes after worship. For our current calendar of events, Click Here.
There are NO STEPS from our front parking lot into the sanctuary. Parking is free in both the upper and lower parking lots as well as on Wesley Drive and intersecting residential streets.
What will my children do on Sunday?
Laguna Beach UMC takes great care in providing the highest quality worship and educational programming for children of all ages. We strive to create environments that are both safe and celebratory of the child’s age and stage of life. Our teachers and staff undergo background checks and are equipped to ensure that the very best care is being provided for the children at all times.
In the fall, nursery care is provided for children birth to 4 years of age from 9:00AM until the end of church each Sunday morning. Age-specific programming for older children (ages 5-12) is available from 9:00AM to 9:45AM. After Children’s Time early in the worship service, children through 5th grade may leave the worship service to attend Worship Readiness, except on Communion Sundays, when they remain in worship (communion falls on the first Sunday of every month). Youth from 6th – 8th grade up are encouraged to participate in the full worship service, but may attend Worship Readiness if they choose.

How do you serve the community?
We believe the more we bring God’s love to life in others, the more we experience God’s love in our own lives. We send teams on international mission trips, and to the Sierra Service Project for youth. Locally, our members support initiatives like the Laguna Beach Resource Center, the Friendship Center, the OC Illumination Foundation, and provide dinner regularly at the Laguna Beach Alternate Sleeping Location for the homeless.
