Ash Wednesday – February 14th
Lent begins with Ash Wednesday, which is often commemorated with the imposition of ashes – receiving ashes in the sign on a cross on one’s head or hand. Why do we do this? The ashes are a call to repentance and reflection. The receiving of ashes launches us into the somber season of Lent which prepares us for the joy of salvation we celebrate on Easter. Therefore, at LBUMC, the sanctuary will be open from 12:00-1:00pm and 5:00-7:00pm for those who would like to receive ashes. Pastor Lynn will be here and as meditative music plays, there will also be a handout for self-guided prayer and meditation. You can stay as long as you like during these hours and come to the altar to receive ashes as you are ready.
