All Saints’ Day, also known as All Hallows’ Day, (saints have historically been known as hallows) or Feast of All Saints, is a Christian celebration to honor the saints; all those who have died in the Christian faith. It always falls on November 1 and is preceded by Halloween, its vigil, on October 31 and is followed by All Souls’ Day on November 2. In some Christian denominations, these three days are celebrated as a “triduum,” a religious observance lasting three days. In the United Methodist church, we remember the saints who have passed on from this life on the Sunday following All Saints day; often by reading their names, ringing a bell and lighting a candle in honor and memory of the life and ministry among us.
Please be present on Sunday November 5th as we remember the beloved saints in our lives and the life of our congregation here at Laguna Beach United Methodist Church. We will show a photo, ring a bell and light a candle for each one. Additionally, you will have an opportunity to remember the “saints” in your personal lives by lighting a candle for them during a special prayer time. Contact Pastor Lynn, if you have any special needs or questions regarding this very special service.
