Open Heart, Open Minds, Open Doors

About Us

What We Believe

Our Mission

Our mission at Laguna Beach United Methodist Church is to “bring God’s love to life.” We are a reconciling church. We believe that starts with being a welcoming congregation that embraces all with open hearts, open minds and open doors. It continues with many opportunities to worship, serve, learn and build the kind of friendships that create real community.

Our Church

As you enter the sanctuary, you’ll discover that there is an ocean view from every pew.  We are a diverse congregation of every size, shape, and ability. We worship through prayer, scripture, word, sacrament, and music. After each Sunday service, coffee and other refreshments are offered on the patio or Healton Hall. This provides a time of fellowship for everyone.

Our History

Our church has been ministering in this location for more than 60 years. Even the name of the street, Wesley Drive, is part of our history. Early members helped pay to have the dirt road paved up the hill to our doors and the city allowed us to name the street after the founder of the United Methodist Church, John Wesley.

What does it mean to be
a Reconciling Church?

We are part of the Reconciling Ministries Network, a national network of United Methodist organizations, advocating for the full inclusion of people of all sexual orientations and gender identities into the life of the church. As part of a Reconciling Congregation, LBUMC is a safe place for LGBTQIA+ persons and their allies to worship and serve God together as one inclusive body. Here at Laguna Beach UMC, we affirm that ALL of God’s children are people of sacred worth. You are welcome here. You are accepted here. You are loved.
